SEPTA Announces Renewable Energy EOI

January 23, 2018

Today SEPTA invited interested renewable energy suppliers to respond to an off-site renewable energy expression of interest (EOI). Exploring the feasibility of increasing the proportion of renewable energy as a share of SEPTA's overall electricity mix is a commitment of SEPTA's Sustainability Program Plan.

The goal of the EOI to provide market insight that will inform a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) for the purchase of off-site renewable energy through a power purchasing agreement (PPA).

SEPTA is the sixth largest public transportation system in the county serving a population of 4.1 million in a service area covering 2,202 square miles. SEPTA currently purchases electricity from third party suppliers through competitive multi-year contract. Most of SEPTA's electricity is distributed by PECO Energy, SEPTA's primary local distribution company. SEPTA uses approximately 370,00 MWh/year to provide electrified transit service across commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, trolley bus, and facilities throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.

For the purposes of this EOI, SEPTA is only interested in off-take of power from off-site renewable energy sources that meet the following criteria:

- PPA agreement will be budget-neutral
- The project produces at least 2 megawatts of power
- The renewable energy is produced within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

All responses to the EOI are due on March 13, 2018,
