SEPTA Receives New Hybrid-Electric Buses

August 14, 2017

In August 2017, SEPTA began to receive the newest fleet of hybrid-electric buses procured by SEPTA in May 2016. Delivery of the 525 hybrid-electric buses will continue through 2021. Once all of the new buses have arrived, hybrid-electric buses will comprise over 90% of SEPTA's bus fleet. Additionally, further replacement of the Authority's diesel buses and integration of 525 new hybrid-electric buses will reduce SEPTA's GHG emissions by over 15.5 million lbs CO2-equivalent over the next four years.

In 2012, SEPTA introduced its first fleet of hybrid-electric buses. Over the past five years, hybrid-electric buses have replaced less efficient diesel buses in SEPTA's fleet. By replacing diesel buses with new hybrid-electric buses, the Authority has reduced its GHG emissions by over 21 million lbs CO2-equivalent since 2012.
