Meet June Smith
June Smith admits to being a “control freak”. She says it with an infectious smile that lights up a room. “Make sure you say ‘BUT’ when you say that,” she said laughing during a recent “sit-down” with CCT Connection. “I won’t accept people who don’t want to come to work, don’t provide good customer service.” The likable Ms. Smith has been a SEPTA employee 21 years, including the last 16 with CCT. The Senior Reservation Supervisor has worked in several capacities throughout her tenure. “I’ve pretty much loved every position I’ve had. Of course, some more than others”, she said with a wink. “I get bored easily. I like change”. And that’s a good thing, because change IS constant in her department.
“In reservations there’s constant turnover. Because the reservationists are agency employees, it is part of the job. Despite that, I think they do a tremendous job.” As for her role with her department? “I see myself as a mentor to the staff. I want to be sensitive but strong and straightforward. I like to promote based on performance, regardless of longevity.”
Although she attended Little Flower and Frankford High Schools, and graduated from Simon Gratz, she considers herself a “professional student from SEPTA University.”
Ms. Smith is married and the mother of a 19- year old daughter (Jessica) and five-year old son (Purnell, Jr.). Mention her family and the megawatt smile lights up the room. “They and my husband keep me busy, too. I wouldn’t trade anything for anything. When I turned 30 (years old) it was ‘the bomb’,” she chortled. “I’m enjoying 40 so far.”
Something tells us that we at CCT are going to enjoy it, too!
