THE CONTROL CENTER: The Pulse of the Agency
The Control Center is essentially the “Brain” of any transit operation –monitoring on-street service, communicating with operations, and gathering information used to evaluate service. SEPTA provides transportation on several different modes of transportation and there’s a control center for each.
The electronic board gives control center operators an-up-to-the-minute look at SEPTA’s rail system. Operators know in an instant where the “trouble spots” may be at any given moment. A similar system for CCT Connect is part of the 17.8 million dollar project. |
In 1997 SEPTA began centralizing control center operations improving communications amongst the various modes. CCT’s Control Center will be joining the others as part of the Communications Upgrade project described on page one.
Part of the improved technological system will be the ability for dispatchers to check, at the click of a computer button, where a customer’s ride is, and how long it should take for the vehicle to arrive. |
A major benefit of being “together” is the improved communications between and amongst SEPTA’s different modes of operations. This is important if there are traffic problems (detours because of accidents/fires or construction) or changing weather conditions (snow/sleet/freezing rain/torrential rain). Centralized operations and state-of-the art equipment will go a long way towards our goal to provide quality service to our customers.
