WHEELCHAIR/SCOOTER SECUREMENTS
CCT Connect requires that customers in mobility devices have their wheelchairs/scooters properly secured when riding on a paratransit vehicle. That means securing them in FOUR locations on 'non-movable' parts.
When boarding a SEPTA bus, the operator must attempt to secure it in FOUR places, but THREE is acceptable. Many SEPTA operators say, "A lot of the newer chairs don't have three or four places." Other operators state, "The securement spots are not visible."
These concerns are also being raised by educators who are travel-training students/adults. The most frequently asked question is: "Is there something we can do or get to make wheelchairs and scooters comply?"
In our Summer 2006 issue we ran a list of manufacturers who provide 'wheelchair securement kits'. In response to new requests, below is a list of those manufacturers.
