SEPTA IS THE BEST ROUTE TO THE 27th ANNUAL 5K CLEAN AIR RUN/EARTH DAY CELEBRATION THIS WEEKEND Eight Go Green Go SEPTA teams totaling 60 participants - more than double the participants from the previous year - will lace up their running shoes and take their place at the starting line among the expected 2,000 athletes and non-athletes. The race takes place between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. starting at the Art Museum and will follow the scenic Martin Luther King Drive along the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park.
“The turn-out this year has been absolutely phenomenal,” said SEPTA employee and Go Green Go SEPTA team coordinator Charles Ryan. “Everyone is excited and is really taking this personally.” In addition, a special SEPTA hybrid “Earth Day” bus will be on site adorned with posters for participants to sign at the end of the race. “Our environment is everyone’s responsibility,” said SEPTA General Manager Joseph Casey.“We are proud to sponsor the 5K Clean Air Run. Transit plays such an important part in reducing harmful pollutants in our air and helps to maintain a cleaner, safer environment.” The Clean Air Council works to ensure enforcement of environmental laws through public education, community advocacy, and oversight of government and industry.
