SEPTA Provides a Quick Trip to the Postseason

Broad Street Line Sports Express Trains in Operation for Games 1 and 2

October 2, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Philadelphia fans who have waited 14 years for a chance to watch playoff baseball will have a much shorter trip to the postseason courtesy of the SEPTA Broad Street Line.

The Broad Street Line provides direct service to the South Philadelphia Sports and Entertainment Complex and Citizens Bank Park. Broad Street Line riders travel in comfort and avoid parking fees and the expected traffic jams in the area.

SEPTA will add two special “Sports Express” trains to the Broad Street Line’s regular local and express schedules during Games 1 and 2 of the National League Division Series between the Colorado Rockies and Phillies.

Fans can catch playoff fever and a ride to the ballpark aboard Sports Express trains which will leave Fern Rock Transportation Center at 1:55 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. for both games scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday (October 3 and 4).

Broad Street Line Sports Express trains stop only at the Olney Transportation Center, Erie, Spring Garden, Girard, Race-Vine, City Hall and Walnut-Locust Stations en route to Pattison Avenue Station and Citizens Bank Park. The express trip from City Hall to the ballpark takes only about eight minutes. Local regular and express Broad Street Line trains will also operate about every eight to 12 minutes throughout the day.

After the games fans will find northbound express and local trains standing by to provide frequent service back to Fern Rock. SEPTA will also decorate Pattison Station in Phillies red and white during the games.

During the final six Phillies home games, SEPTA’s Broad Street Line carried an average of 3,437 riders to the games. These totals surpassed the entire 2006 season average by 60 percent or 1,300 riders per game.
