SEPTA To Revise Detours For Bus Routes 38 And 40 In West Philadelphia As Reconstruction Project Continues On 40th Street Bridge

PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEPTA will alter local detours for bus Routes 38 and 40 in West Philadelphia beginning Sunday, June 17 as a reconstruction project continues on the 40th Street Bridge.
The bus routes have operated on detours since the bridge reconstruction project began in January 2007. Adding transit stops at 40th Street & Parkside Avenue and 40th & Poplar Streets, eastbound Route 38 service will operate on Poplar Street to 40th Street and then continue to Cambridge Street, 42nd Street and Westminster Avenue before returning to 40th Street and the regular routing. Eastbound service on Route 40 will operate on 41st Street to Cambridge Street, 42nd Street and Westminster Avenue to 40th Street before returning to the regular routing.
Westbound Route 38 and 40 service detours will remain unchanged in the construction area.
Riders should allow up to 10 minutes of additional travel time to their trip due to the detours. The detours are expected to continue until reconstruction of the 40th Street Bridge is completed.
