June 14, 2006
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- SEPTA will operate shuttle buses on a portion of trolley Route 11 from June 19 through September 2 due to a SEPTA track renewal project on Woodland Avenue between 67th Street and Island Avenue.
The construction project will renew more than 3,500 feet of rail dating from the 1970’s with new continuous welded rail which provides for a quieter, safer and smoother ride for trolley service as well as automobiles.
On weekdays, between 5 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. the shuttle buses will operate in place of trolley service between 49th Street & Woodland Avenue and 9th & Main Streets in Darby. On weeknights, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. and all day on Saturdays and Sundays the shuttle buses will replace the trolley service between 9th & Main Streets and 40th Street & Woodland Avenue.
The construction will also cause SEPTA bus Route 116 to operate on a detour. The bus route will detour onto Church Lane, 70th Street, Elmwood Avenue and Island Avenue before returning to its regular route.
During the construction, Woodland Avenue will be closed in the construction zone and traffic will be limited to emergency vehicles, trash pick-up, and local traffic only. Temporary crosswalks will be provided for pedestrians at designated intersections and parking will be prohibited in the work area.
