SEPTA to Begin Activating New Warning Devices at Highway-Rail Grade Crossings this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA, PA - SEPTA will begin the activation of 10 new warning device systems installed at highway-rail grade crossings along the Route 101 Media trolley line in Delaware County this weekend (June 10-11).
The warning devices include a combination of gates, signals, bells and lights.They are intended to improve safety at highway-rail grade crossings by alerting automobile drivers and pedestrians about oncoming SEPTA trolleys.
The Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Warning Device Improvement Program is a cooperative effort between SEPTA and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Total funding for this phase of the program is $6.4 million and is allocated through the PennDot Highway-Rail Safety Program.
The activation of the warning devices is scheduled to take place as follows:
• June 10 – at Beatty, Pine Ridge and Papermill Roads • June 17 – at Thompson Avenue • July 8 – at Woodland, Saxer and Leamy Avenues • July 22 – at Springfield Road • August 12 – at Scenic Road • August 26 – at Wildell Avenue
SEPTA will operate normal Route 101 Media trolley service during the activation of the systems, however, trolleys and other vehicular traffic may experience minor delays.
