SEPTA Trolley Route 36 Service Altered Due to Track Improvement Project in Southwest Philadelphia

June 4, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- SEPTA will operate shuttle buses in place of subway-surface trolley Route 36 service between 73rd Street & Elmwood Avenue and the Eastwick Loop (80th Street & Lindburgh Boulevard) from June 17 through July 21 due to a track improvement project on Island Avenue.

Inbound (to Center City) riders traveling from Eastwick will board shuttle buses at 80th Street & Lindburgh Boulevard and then transfer to Route 36 trolleys at 73rd Street & Elmwood Avenue. Outbound (to Eastwick Loop) riders will board trolleys in Center City as usual and then transfer to shuttle buses at 73rd Street & Elmwood Avenue. In addition, several of the regular transit stops along Island Avenue will be moved or discontinued during the construction.

The track improvement project will replace more than 700 feet of rail dating from the 1920’s with new continuous welded rail for a quieter, safer, and smoother ride. Inner-track fencing will also be installed at locations along the route.
