SEPTA Project to Alter Some Weekend Regional Rail Service April 19, 2006 The project, which covers approximately 7.5 miles of railroad, will have replaced the 1930s era communication and signal system with a new 60 mph bi-directional system and will provide increased reliability and greater operational flexibility for approximately 34,000 SEPTA passengers who travel between Wayne Junction and Glenside Stations. Service on R1 Glenside, R2 Warminster, R3 West Trenton, and R5 Lansdale/Doylestown will be affected on weekends from April 21-23 through June 23-25 as a result. The only exceptions will be May 12-14 (Mother’s Day weekend) and May 26-28 (Memorial Day weekend) when regular weekend regional rail service will operate. Special weekend schedules for the impacted routes are available now at Market-East, Suburban and 30th Street Stations and SEPTA sales offices. On Saturdays and Sundays during the project, shuttle buses will operate in place of train service between Glenside and Jenkintown Stations on R1 Airport, R2 Warminster and R5 Lansdale-Doylestown. R3 West Trenton will operate with shuttle bus service between Noble and Jenkintown Stations. Additionally, service will be altered as follows: • R1 Glenside – on Fridays shuttle buses will operate in place of the last inbound (to Center City) train regularly scheduled to leave Philadelphia International Airport at 12:09 a.m. Shuttle buses will also operate on Monday mornings for the scheduled 4:29 a.m. train from Glenside. • R2 Warminster – on Saturdays and Sundays inbound service (to Center City) will leave Warminster Station five minutes later than current train times with the exception of the first three trains, which are scheduled to depart at 5:16 a.m., 5:46 a.m. and 6:34 a.m. The 5:16 a.m. departure from Warminster has been added to the schedule so passengers can arrive in Center City at approximately the same time the first train arrives on current schedules. • R3 West Trenton – on Saturdays and Sundays inbound service (to Center City) will leave West Trenton Station 19 minutes earlier than current train times with the exception of the last train, which is scheduled to depart at its regular time of 10:58 p.m. • R5 Lansdale-Doylestown – on Saturdays and Sundays inbound service (to Center City) will leave Doylestown Station 16 minutes later than current train times with the exception of the first three trains, which are scheduled to depart at 5:40 a.m., 6:40 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. The 5:40 a.m. departure from Doylestown has been added to the schedule so passengers can arrive in Center City at approximately the same time as the first train arrives on current schedules. Also, the last inbound train from Doylestown will leave 12 minutes later (at 11:05 p.m.) than on current schedules. Passengers should plan accordingly as the shuttle buses may increase travel times by up to 30 minutes. SEPTA officials will be available throughout the project to assist passengers and signs will be posted at all affected stations during weekends of construction. Passengers may call the SEPTA Customer Service Department at 215-580-7800 for information on all SEPTA services. |
