Construction to Close Millbourne Station on the Market-Frankford line

April 17, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The SEPTA Millbourne Station on the Market-Frankford Line will be closed for passenger service beginning Monday, April 23 while a new station is constructed as its replacement.

The new station is tentatively scheduled to open in approximately one year as work crews demolish the existing station in order to construct a new modern station building.

Millbourne Station, located in Delaware County, is one of six newly designed stations to be built as part of the extensive Market Street Elevated (MSE) Reconstruction Project. Millbourne Station will be a highly illuminated and vibrant station that will be fully accessible for those with disabilities.

Market-Frankford Line trains will bypass Millbourne Station during construction. While Millbourne Station is closed, passengers may board and depart trains at nearby 69th Street Terminal or 63rd Street Station.

The MSE project is a critical overhaul of the western portion of the line, which opened for service 100 years ago in 1907. The project includes a streamlined, single-column support structure, six new customer-friendly stations, and art-inspired architectural features that will improve the overall riding experience for passengers.

SEPTA’s Community Information Center (CIC) is open six days a week during the project and is located at 5344 Chestnut Street to provide passengers, residents, and businesses with project information. The CIC is also accessible by telephone at 215-748-5700.

Information on all SEPTA service is available online or by telephone at 215-580-7800.
