SEPTA to Operate Weekend Shuttle Buses on R3 Media-Elwyn Line

March 29, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEPTA will operate weekend shuttle buses on a portion of R3 Media/Elwyn regional rail line due to a railroad maintenance project.

The shuttle buses will operate on Saturday & Sunday (March 21 & April 1) between Elwyn and Swarthmore Stations and make stops at Media, Moylan-Rose Valley, Wallingford and Swarthmore en route.

The project is necessary as SEPTA removes vegetation and performs other maintenance procedures along the railroad right-of-way. SEPTA regularly performs various maintenance projects to improve reliability and provide more efficient service for riders.

The project will impact R3 Media/Elwyn service from approximately 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and from approximately 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday. Special R3 schedules will be in affect and posted at impacted R3 stations. The schedules, which include shuttle bus stop locations, are also at Center City stations and online.

*Saturday, March 31
Regular inbound (to Philadelphia) service will operate for the first train scheduled to leave Elwyn Station at 6:22 a.m. Shuttle buses will then operate in place of trains between 7:03 a.m. and 6:03 p.m. leaving Elwyn Station 19 minutes earlier than current train times. Normal train service between Elwyn and Center City Philadelphia will resume with the train scheduled to leave Elwyn at 7:22 p.m.

For outbound service (to Elwyn), passengers will board regularly scheduled trains from Center City Philadelphia. Riders traveling beyond Swarthmore, however, will transfer to shuttle buses to continue to Elwyn.
