Implosion to Impact SEPTA Service
on Sunday

March 1, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEPTA will operate shuttle buses in place of two regularly scheduled R1 Airport trains due to Sunday’s scheduled implosion of Pennsylvania Hall on Civic Center Boulevard.

R1 Airport will be affected as follows:

  • The inbound (to Center City) train regularly scheduled to leave Eastwick Station at 6:45 a.m. will operate with shuttle buses between Eastwick Station and Center City Philadelphia.
  • The outbound (to Airport) train regularly scheduled to leave 30th Street Station at 7:04 a.m. will operate with shuttle buses between 30th Street Station and Philadelphia International Airport.

SEPTA bus Route 42 will also be detoured through the impacted area as follows:

Route 42

  • Eastbound bus Route 42 will operate on Spruce Street between 38th and 33rd Streets. Westbound Route 42 service will travel on Walnut Street between 34th and 38th Streets.

In addition, SEPTA will close the University City Regional Rail Station for service beginning at 6:40 a.m. as Pennsylvania Hall is scheduled to be demolished at approximately 6:50 a.m.

Passengers who normally use the station can board a shuttle van from the station’s South Street entrance to connect with airport shuttle buses or rail service at 30th Street Station.

While the implosion is expected to take less than one minute, R1 Airport shuttle buses and bus detours will remain in effect until inspectors have declared the area safe.
