PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEPTA will detour bus Routes 38 and 40 from the 40th Street Bridge in West Philadelphia starting Monday, January 8, due to new bridge weight restrictions and construction.
Instead of operating over the bridge, Route 38 westbound buses will detour via Parrish Street, 41st Street, Manuta Avenue, 42nd Street, Girard Avenue and 41st Street before returning to the regular routing at Parkside Avenue. Eastbound buses will operate over 41st Street, Girard Avenue, 42nd Street, Westminster Avenue, and then 40th Street before returning to the regular routing.
On Route 40, westbound service will operate north on 41st Street to Mantua Avenue then across the new bridge at 42nd Street to Girard Avenue. Along Girard Avenue, buses will travel in the trolley lane and stop at the center boarding island at 41st Street, then turn north on 41st Street before returning to the regular routing at Parkside Avenue. (The current detour along Westminster Avenue – 40th & Poplar Streets – will be discontinued). Eastbound buses will operate on 41st Street to Girard Avenue, then to 42nd Street and along Westminster Avenue to 40th Street before returning to regular routing.
Riders should allow up to 10 minutes of additional travel time to their trip due to the detours.
These detours will continue until reconstruction of the 40th Street Bridge is completed. Riders should look for new bus schedules in February 2007 with revised trip times.
