Construction Talk:
Gulph Mills Station Reconstruction Project

Reconstruction of Gulph Mills Station includes new waiting shelters and upgraded rail platforms.

Gulph Mills Station provides an important link for commuters around the burgeoning employment areas of Conshohocken and King of Prussia.  Situated on the Route 100 Norristown High Speed Line, Gulph Mills is also a connection point to SEPTA bus routes 95, 124 and 125; as well as privately-run employee shuttles.  SEPTA crews have reconstructed the station into a modern, intermodal ADA-accessible facility helping to further encourage transit in the township of Upper Merion.

Two new bus shelters offer an expanded waiting area and bench seating.

Change is evident upon pulling up to the station through two newly widened entrances off Trinity Lane.  A new shelter was constructed between these expanded entrances for waiting bus customers.  A second bus shelter, situated just below the northbound Route 100 track, was also reconstructed of matching materials.  Both shelters feature a large, illuminated waiting area, modern bench seating and trash receptacles.  Updated informational and directional signs, and a repaved parking surface add to the station’s fresh surroundings.

Up along the rail tracks, new platforms have been installed for Route 100 customers.  Expanded waiting shelters sit prominently on each platform and feature similar amenities to the bus shelters.  The new platform areas were constructed on a steeper grade, requiring the addition of new architectural retaining walls adjacent to the northbound and southbound parking areas.  Upgrades made to the station’s drainage system are designed to prevent erosion.  The perimeter of the station is lined with fresh landscaping and ornamental iron fencing.

New shelters featuring modern amenities and fully accessible platforms.

The most significant milestone resulting from this reconstruction is being able to provide our customers with another fully ADA-accessible SEPTA facility.  Each parking lot is now connected by pre-cast ramps to the new platforms of the Route 100.  The pedestrian underpass between platforms has been widened, and each bus shelter sidewalk area now includes tactile edges and curb cuts.  An Audio-Visual Public Address system provides updated travel information to waiting customers.

Complete ADA-accessibility includes pre-cast ramps to the station platforms and widening the pedestrian underpass between parking lots.

Enhancing customer travel amenities at SEPTA stations is an important aspect of the Authority’s mission to attract and retain riders.  The rehabilitation of Gulph Mills Station is another fine example of the effort SEPTA has put forth to meeting this goal.

Gulph Mills Station is an intermodal link between the Route 100
Norristown High Speed Line and multiple SEPTA bus routes.
