Thank You, SEPTA Customers and Employees

Heather Redfern
Public Information Manager

With almost 16,500 pounds of food and over $9,200 in monetary donations collected, SEPTA's 2017 ninth annual "Stop Hunger at Your Station" food drive resulted in almost 35,000 meals for Philabundance and its partner social service agencies.

"We cannot thank our customers and employees enough for their support of this campaign," said SEPTA General Manager Jeffrey Knueppel. "For thousands of families across the SEPTA service region, the burden of putting food on their tables is even greater during the summer because many children stop receiving the free and reduced-cost meals they get during the school year. The food collected during our drive will go a long way in helping our neighbors in need."

During the two-week event, the public dropped off much-needed items such as canned tuna and pasta, peanut butter and jelly at more than 40 SEPTA locations. A specially wrapped bus also visited Regional Rail stations and transportation centers to collect donations.

Throughout the food drive, employees at all SEPTA depots, districts and its Center City headquarters made contributions. Employees from SEPTA's Center City Control Center and Frontier District led the way with the amount of staff donations.

Since 2009, SEPTA customers and employees have donated almost 156,000 pounds of food. With monetary contributions of approximately $62,200, SEPTA customers and employees have given the equivalent of almost 280,000 meals over the course of the drive's nine-year history.

"We know that some of those who rely on Philabundance and its agencies are SEPTA's customers. Giving back to the neighbors we serve is an important part of our organization's mission."

SEPTA and Philabundance employees kicked off the 2017 drive at Philabundance's Food Distribution Center.

Employees at SEPTA's Frontier Division donated cases of food.

SEPTA customers, like these young riders at FTC, donated food at 43 locations.
